Atf.gov is the first website I went to after I studied Eliot Ness in class. The website is an official government website and is the agency that Eliot Ness worked for. The website has educational value as it is credible and provides us with a lot of information about his career. The website is constantly updated by government and was last updated in 2015. The theme is very dull because it is a law enforcement agency website and the navigation is very basic. There is only one picture of Eliot Ness that could be considered multimedia. I learned the most about his career from this website.
The website shows us the timeline through Eliot Ness’s 10 year career at the ATF (Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives). I was very impressed with his performance as an agent and his leadership skills. As I quote, “ With 34 agents under his command, Agent Ness methodically tracked down, raided and destroyed a string of illicit liquor operations, earning a reputation for taking down a still a day. Agent Ness and his agents seized over $100,000 worth of equipment capable of producing a thousand gallons of bootleg liquor a day, cheating the government out of close to $30,000 a week in taxes – an astronomical sum for the day.”. The quotation sums up the information on the website. Eliot Ness is glorified throughout the site and is praised for his career.

Biography.com got my attention straight away because of the abundance and accuracy of the information present. This website was created by the A&E Channel, Bio and the page was updated in 2014. The website is very educational in the aspect that it has a lot of information. The theme is not necessarily “pretty” but provides us with easy navigation around the site. The website provides all the necessary information but does not have much multimedia present. I learned the most about his overall life from this website.
The website shows us many different aspects of Eliot Ness’s life. Eliot Ness will always be remembered as the man who is responsible for bringing down Al Capone and organization in Chicago. He achieved this through shutting down Al Capone’s multimillion-dollar brewery operation and was also responsible for the arrest and conviction of Al Capone for tax evasion. The website briefly goes over his early life in the beginning and I am impressed at academic performance. It is not surprising he had the intelligence to bring down a criminal organization. Eliot Ness attended the University of Chicago when he was 18 years old and majored in commerce, law, and political science. He graduated in the top third of his class in 1925. The website goes over his career in the next final sections in detail. His involvement with the Chicago’s Justice Department and the process of how he took out Al Capone. It also briefly goes over his work in Cincinnati.

This website stood out to me because of the very detailed information it provides. Clevelandpolicemesuem.org is an educational website and is the most credible source found online so far. The website was created by The Cleveland police museum. The Cleveland police museum is a non profit organization founded by Detective Bolton in 1984. It is one of the few law enforcement museums open to the U.S public today. The theme is very “law enforcement” like and is very dull with a blue background. The article was created by Rebecca McFarland, Museum Trustee, January 2012. The website is updated weekly for newsletters. There are only two photos present that could be considered multimedia. I learned the most about his personal life from this website.
The website shows us many different aspects of Eliot Ness’s life. Topics include his education, childhood, career, personal life and his impact on todays life. The website also goes into detail how Eliot Ness modernized the police force. As I quote, “Not only was Ness concerned with the efficiency of the police officers on the street and traffic concerns, he also knew that more modern equipment was need for the police force.”. This type of regulation or policies were revolutionary at the time. The website is more detailed in comparison to others. As I quote, “They had five children: Clara, Effie, Nina and Charles before Eliot was born as the youngest.(1) There was a 10 year gap in age between the fourth child and Eliot, so it was said he was given lots of family attention. His parents owned a bakery.”. This extent of detail is hard to find for Eliot Ness and I highly recommend this website.

History.com stood out to me because of their reputation and credibility. History is a worldwide corporation and they have their own TV channel. This is an educational website as they are credible and they have an abundance of sources and multimedia. History.com is the only website that is able to provide us with an satisfactory amount of multimedia. The website is very functional and aesthetically pleasing. The website provides speeches, videos, articles about the prohibition and Eliot Ness. This website was able to provide me with the most multimedia in comparison to others.
The website goes over prohibition and focuses on the the connection between Eliot Ness and Al Capone. The resources available help us connect the two individuals together. They provide us with an better understanding on how and why they ended up trying to take each other down. Al Capone is almost glorified for his criminal empire and is depicted as untouchable. Eliot Ness is presented as a young, ambitious agent. The videos and speeches available help us get more engaged/involved with prohibition. It also makes Eliot Ness and Al Capone more relatable. This educational quality is hard to be duplicated through text and information.

This website was created by Pennsylvania State University Libraries. This is a credible educational website as it is created by an educational institution. Pennsylvania State is ranked 37 in the U.S and is a prestigious school to attend. The author of the article is Ryan Stingle and it was created in 2011. The website is constantly updated by the institution. There is absolutely no theme, or color in the website. There is also no pictures present in the website and no multimedia. This website makes me feel like I am reading a mid term essay, but has useful information.
The website briefly goes over Eliot Ness’s life. Topics include his education, childhood, career and briefly over his personal life. The information that stood out the most was Eliot Ness was not depicted in his usual glorified manner. He is exposed for his alcoholism in the website. As I quote, " Ness's career and personal life continued to decline as he struggled with alcoholism and marital problems. Ness had divorced his first wife in 1939 and then remarried that same year; he divorced his second wife and remarried a second time in 1946.”. Unlike most websites, Ness is depicted as an agent who couldn’t live up to his reputation and the website provides us with a different perspective about his life and career. As I quote, “was involved in a hit-and-run accident. While Ness was not prosecuted for drunk driving, Ness's enemies used this incident to ruin his career as Public Safety Director”.
